Visiting the exotic country of Thailand is a dream for many of you and I can tell you it is a good dream to have. It can be costly to buy certain things in the country but there are ways you can save money while you are there. One easy way to save money in Thailand is to eat local food. Local food is not only less expensive than other non-local cuisines, but it is also the best way to experience and explore the local culture.

Another money-saving tip is to travel second class. While “second class” sounds undesirable, it is actually perfectly comfortable, and costs substantially less than first class. Second class fares and accommodations might be a little less roomy than first class, but are quite acceptable and budget-friendly.
Public transport is another easy way to save money. Buses and trains not only cost less, but are also quite convenient, and offer a pleasant way to enjoy Thailand compared to the frenetic, and more expensive, taxis and tuk-tuks. If you are pregnant I do not recommend that you travel by tuk-tuks especially if you are staying in the capital Bangkok, as there is so much traffic that should there be an accident you are likely to get seriously injured and it is unlikely that you could make a Birth Injury claim, or any other claim for that matter, against the driver.

Taking advantage of extended-stay accommodation rates is another way to save money. If you will be staying in a certain spot for more than a week, ask the guesthouse or rental if there is a discounted extended-stay rate. This is a good idea if you are in a central location that allows for easy day trips to surrounding areas.
Another way to save money on accommodations is to take advantage of shared dormitories in hostels and guesthouses. It’s cheaper, and also a great way to meet fellow international travelers, share travel tips, and trade reading materials.
